Helpful Health Hacks:
Best Nurse-Friendly Snacks!
by Dr. Adam Martin, PharmD, ACSM-CPT
We’ve all been there: we ran out of time in the morning to pack our lunch, or were in such a rush to get to work on time that we left it at home (the WORST!) and thennnnn the hunger starts to roll in. What do you do? Meander the cafeteria and succumb to the “what the hell” effect of ‘well I already messed up the plan, so I might as well…’ You get where I’m going with that. I’ve done it, you’ve done it- we all were once a part of that club. Not no mo’! Here are my tips to pack snacks for your at-work survival kit should any mishaps, forgotten food, or excessive hunger come into play while on the battlefield:
Rx Bar (yes, I’m a pharmacist, and haha- but these things are amazing!)
So many amazing flavors- and yes, I have tried them all! What’s good?
Gluten-free, dairy-free, no soy, GMO-free, Kosher, safe during pregnancy, and FREAKING DELICIOUS! No cardboard texture here- just amazing tastebud bliss 😀
Average macros (vary by flavor): Carbs 26gm – Protein 12gm – Fat 8gm
The most common macro that people don’t get enough of is protein. Why not have some that is delicious, ready-to-eat, and low fat and low carb? Jerky is a must-have- and there are SO many flavors your taste buds are sure to find a friend with this snack!
Average macros per 1oz serving (vary by brand/flavor): Carbs 5gm – Protein 14gm – Fat 1gm
*Opt for the plain version or 100-calorie packs and you can satisfy your need to crunch with low tax on your macro bank!
Average macros per 100 calorie bag (vary by brand/flavor): Carbs 32gm – Protein 1gm – Fat 0gm
These are my favorite go-to snacks while at work!
